I want to know if there's some qualities that a person should have if they want to take lessons in ballroom dancing. Anything from height to personality!
I'm thirteen and I'm interested in taking lessons, but I want to know if I have the right qualities. I wouldn't say I'm exactly very graceful, but I'm a very musical person so I thought I might excel at this where I wouldn't excel at, I don't know, ballet.
Thanks for the help!
To start out in ballroom, you'll need enthusiasm and energy!
When you start to dance at a higher level, you will need more endurance. Some people learn quicker than others. A lot of who you are can be expressed in dance, and I think ballroom is a fabulous choice for you.
If you go on to complete, there is lot to develop as contestants are judged on footwork, foot speed, leg action, grooming, posture, connection with their partner, musicality, elegance, and showmanship. It is both an art and a sport.
My daughter is your age, and just today announced she's ready to try ballroom. Given my background, I've tried very hard not to pressure her, but I am delighted. Like you, she is musical, and in her case, far from graceful. Ballroom will help you gain poise and grace.
Good luck, and have fun!!!
